Research Architecture

Status refers to the development of each intellectual or institutional component, not to the legal or operational status of Nepantla as an institution.

The research architecture states what Nepantla intends to investigate and the structures proposed to hold that work. Nothing described here is operational; the domains define direction, and the structures are proposed forms.

Section 04.1

Research domains

Seven areas of sustained enquiry. They are deliberately adjacent, so that findings in one are answerable to the others.

    Transition & Human Transformation

    How people and organisations pass through intervals of indeterminacy, and what makes that passage constructive rather than merely survivable.

  2. 02

    Human Intelligence & Cognition

    Attention, judgement, memory and interpretation — particularly under uncertainty and information excess.

  3. 03

    Intelligence Systems

    The conceptual design of systems that assist interpretation, and the conditions under which such assistance remains legitimate.

  4. 04

    Discovery & Decision

    How significance is identified, and how responsibility is retained when choices are made with incomplete knowledge.

  5. 05

    Organisational Transformation

    Institutional change: why structures resist adaptation, and how purpose survives reorganisation.

  6. 06

    Ethics & Responsible Intelligence

    Dignity, consent, oversight and accountability as design requirements rather than commentary.

  7. 07

    Futures & Emerging Systems

    Plausible trajectories of technological and social systems, studied to improve present judgement rather than to predict.

Prospective institutional structures

Four proposed environments. None currently exists; each is described so that its function is clear before it is built.

The research cycle

Research is treated as circular. Public contribution is not the end of the process; it is what generates the next question.

Section 04.4

Integrity commitments

Research integrity is stated before there is research to protect: methods declared, limitations published, negative results retained, and disagreement recorded rather than resolved administratively. No findings, partnerships, funders or personnel are claimed in this edition.
